SUMMER NEWSLETTER 2005
(Begun JULY 13, 2005 - Completed July 26 2005)

People come to me like words. They arrive freely as gifts from the God-Us, and from my generous Muse. I invite you to share spoken word tincture with me anytime before 5 PM or after 9 AM MDT. I welcome brief phone calls and visits to hospital or better yet, at home! Call me for details - (435) 527-3738.

As in all other playing fields in life, I hold no hostages. (Though I have been tempted to kidnap a few of my fave apprentices. In Apprentice and Writer Rachel Kellum's case, the ransom to be paid would be her daughter Sage, a younger Goddess in Training.) An unfolding source of joy has been learning from and teaching young women (and their mothers) - especially the last couple of years. My all time favorite apprentice, ext to Rachel (who said she would be my biographer). Also Audrey Spach, time-shared by Nan Koehler The mothers of the future carry harvested hope in their unfolding laps that lets me not only survive, but thrive. Indeed, I do not know what I would've done without Clara Scropetta (from Italy who is completing 3 moons of seva - that is, service) plus Robin Rose Bennett, Abbi Mountain, Jane Collings, Brigitte Ross, and Jane Bernstein who showed up and also tolerated me. A must mention here is the Writer Gabrielle Kauffmann, who has once again generously donated her time and energy to sending you a written copy through the mail. She gifted me like this last year as well - read more about Mother, Hygieia stundet and midwife Gabrielle .

Lately I identify with the protagonist "Wilbur" in E. B. White's children's classic Charlotte's Web. Or at least his shadow for Wilbur is a pig, "a mighty fine pig, too" and a new totem for me. I am holding at 87 lbs. this summer 2005 and have faith that my ravenous appetite will transform this dismal swoon I've been since November 2003, swelling into wholeness, health.

In the meantime I have been praying for more body mass. This swine-like form, pork belly and all, is wearing me out. Too much like the corporate totem, the pig - intelligent yet greedy.

Imagine my surprise to discover that the pig isn't yet another Gemini totem. Adding upon all of the winged animal guides, is the hummingbird and goose.

Besides, no one ever told me that it would be painful to not "let myself go" - seems it is my nature to self-heal. Therefore diet has become the first and last frontier.

This illness is the first time since I was a young teenager (or was a baby way before the adolescent fixations on appearance), that I have obsessed over food. Meals are a major focus at the Alchemical Bakery.

Fast Soul: Flying with Geese
© by Jeannine Parvati Baker

Prologue - Hummingbirds fly south for the winter by hitching a ride on the back of geese.
The butterfly, hummingbird and the hawk are the sacred birds of Gemini.

Every 7 minutes
Hummingbirds must eat.

How they move is mystery
Changing their path of flight
Instantly, even impossibly
Through grace.

They are guided
By Earth's lightest love
As we all are.

Our real nature - joy.

Queen Messenger Hawk
Now a hungry Hummingbird.

A new totem claims my fast soul.

Life is too short
For prayer alone.

Lost in the migration
Eventually emerging
As the smoking phoenix
Soaring.

The dark winter
Melts into warmth.

I am ready to fly.
